BMC Software Profit Exceeds View
NEW YORK (Reuters) - BMC Software Inc. (NYSE:BMC - news), a system management software maker, on Tuesday posted a quarterly profit against a year-earlier loss, helped by an improved technology spending environment in the United States.
For its fiscal second quarter ending September, net income was $12.7 million, or 6 cents per share, compared with a year-earlier loss of $13.2 million, or 6 cents per share.
Earnings excluding items were 16 cents a share, higher than last year's 10 cents a share and analysts' average estimate of 14 cents a share, according to Reuters Estimates.
Revenue rose by 6 percent to $355.1 million. Software license bookings rose 11 percent to $147.2 million.
For its fiscal third quarter, BMC expects earnings before items of 18 cents to 23 cents a share and revenue of $380 million to $395 million.
Analysts, on average expected 18 cents a share for the third quarter and 69 cents a share for the year.
The company also said it is raising expectations for fiscal 2005. It now expects earnings excluding items of 67 cents to 77 cents a share and revenue of $1.47 billion to $1.50 billion.
